Admissions: Nursery & Reception places available at English Martyrs

We welcome pupils and families from all Faiths and backgrounds into our school. All pupils are truly cherished and nurtured throughout their time with us and by Year 6, they are fully prepared for the next phase of their educational journey.
We balance effective pastoral care with great academic attainment evidenced by the above national average results we achieve; we’re lucky to have a dedicated pastoral team and expert teaching staff.
Wrap-around Care
We have recently introduced full wrap-around care. The wrap-around care is by school staff, which contributes to the school’s “family” feel and adds to the school’s comprehensive offer as it further supports our parents by offering additional childcare in a safe, familiar and engaging environment at low cost!
- Our open plan indoor and outdoor Early Years learning environments are fully interactive and spacious, and have been purposefully crafted by our expert staff according to the curriculum to keep your little ones engaged whilst they learn through play.
- Our Nursery pupils develop all the tools they need to make a flying start in Reception. Here, they will be introduced to phonics and numbers as well as a wide range of topics within the EYFS curriculum carefully curated to keep their brain and hands busy. We have 15 and 30 hours of funded nursery places which are available for September 2027.
- Our Reception children will begin and continue to receive a well-rounded curriculum which supports their academic, emotional, spiritual and physical development, so they are ready to leave in Year 6 fully prepared for the next phase of their life in education.
To apply for a full-time place in the Foundation Stage for your child starting in September 2027, you must complete the following:
- Make an online application to the local authority. If you live in the Wakefield area, you can visit the Apply for a full-time place in Reception page on the Wakefield Council website. If you are not a Wakefield resident, please contact the local authority where you live.
- Complete the Supplementary Information Form. Complete the form and return it directly to school. You can download this form above.

Applications for our Reception class for September 2027 open on 1st November 2026 and close on 15th January 2027. Open day dates for this year are TBC – follow our social media channels for updates. National Offer Day is 16th April 2027.
- Contact the School Admissions Team and request an application form. You can contact the Wakefield Admissions Team at admissions@wakefield.gov.uk or 01924 306 052. You will be asked to provide your child’s name, date of birth, your current address and details of your child’s current, or previous, school. Further information about completing the application form is available on the Changing schools or new to Wakefield page on the Wakefield Council website.
