Admissions Arrangements

Choosing and applying for a place at school is one of the most important things we can do for our children. The current Admission Policy can be found below. Prospective parents are advised to read the Admissions Policy carefully and visit the school. It is also important to fill in the school’s own Supplementary Information Form and return this to school.

The Local Authority coordinates the admissions process on behalf of the school.

Further information about what to do if the application for your child is not successful can be found on the Local Authority website.

Please contact the School Office if you would like any more information.

How to apply for a full-time place in Reception

Applications for places in the academic year commencing September 2024: the online application system will open on 1 November 2023. The Closing Date for applications is 15 January 2024. The national offer day is 16 April 2024.

Click on the link below to enter the Wakefield Admissions online application system, then click on the ‘Create Account’ link at the top of the page and enter your details.

Keep a record of your password – you will need this to verify your account and to log in later, including to find out about your offer of a school place.

Please ensure that the information you enter is correct – you are responsible for the accuracy of the information in your application. Supplying false or misleading information, or failing to advise School Admissions of any changes – including a change to your child’s address – may result in the offer of a school place being withdrawn.

You can find out about your offer of a school place from 12:30am on 17 April 2023 – log back into your account using your email address and password. Wakefield School Admissions will also send you an email with details of your offer.

Changing schools or new to Wakefield

If you would like your child to change schools either during the current school year, or at the end of a school year when there is not normally a transfer to another school, contact the School Admissions Team and request an application form.

01924 306 052

You will be asked to provide your child’s name, date of birth, your current address and details of your child’s current, or previous, school.

You can apply for a place at any school in the Wakefield district that includes your child’s age group. If you want to apply for a place at a school outside the Wakefield district, you will need to contact the relevant Local Authority.

School Admissions Process

  • The School Admissions Team will liaise with the preferred schools, to confirm numbers on roll in the relevant year group

  • School Admissions will consider your application alongside other applications for the same schools using the relevant over subscription criteria

  • A place will be offered at the highest preference possible.
  • If it is not possible to offer any of your preferences and your application is in relation to a house move resulting in your child no longer being able to attend their previous school, a school place will be allocated at the nearest school to your home address with a place available

  • Where the relevant year group is full, your child will be placed on the waiting list for the remainder of the academic year and you will be contacted should a vacancy become available within the school year which can be offered to your child. You will be given the right to an appeal and you can find further information about this process here.

  • You will be notified of the outcome of your application by letter. Your child should start the new school within 10 school days from the date of the offer letter.

Your child must continue to attend their present school until a place has been allocated at an alternative school.

Appeals Process

If your preference for a school place cannot be met you have the right of appeal. All appeals are organised by the Council’s Committee Services Team. Your appeal should be submitted within 20 school days from the receipt of refusal. You will be asked to complete a form, clearly stating your reasons for your appeal.

Admissions Appeal Form

The School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (as amended) requires all Local Authorities (LAs) and Schools who are their own Admission Authorities to make appropriate arrangements for parents to appeal against a decision made by the LA or Governing Body (GB) for refusing a child admission to a preferred school.

The School Admission Appeals Code produced by the Department for Education governs all school admission appeals. This Guide to School Admission Appeals is relevant to Academies, Community and Church of England VC and VA Schools within the Wakefield District.
